Crystal Bridges Intern

I spent my summer in between an internship and a Walmart sales floor. When I wasn't interning for the museum I was working in housewares across the street from Walmart's home office. When I was interning however, I was excitedly following my passion in communication, and gaining experience in a new field.

My main duties included writing press releases and monitoring social media for the summer, especially when there were ticket give aways for the current exhibit at the time. My main focus was working with the "In the Gallery and In the Forest" exhibit by world renowned glass blowing artist Dale Chihuly. He designed glass works for both inside the museum and installation on the museum grounds to provide a walking trail experience of his work in nature.

The most exciting thing I got to work on was the "Choose Your Chihuly" campaign at the end of the summer. The museum was allowed to purchase one piece from the current exhibit to add to the museum's permanent collection, and decided the choice should be up to the public. Museum curators were asked to represent different pieces and the public were invited to vote for their favorite to be purchased.

I helped with filming and editing videos for each curator and their piece, as well as monitoring social media and posting about the competition regularly.

Work

During my time as an intern for Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art I mostly wrote content for the internal communication department. Each week I worked with my supervisor to create a social media plan for the week, to guide the posts on various platforms throughout the week. I aided in creating the monthly press release by writing the introduction to the months events at the beginning of the document, and I also wrote Public Service Announcements, which advertised museum events, to be read aloud on local radio stations.
